Afterward, we will visit the ancient city of El Tajín, the heart of the Totonac culture. We will see its remarkable architecture, including the Temple of the 365 Niches, which are associated with time, the sun, and the seasons, as well as its 20 ball courts called Olomaliztli or Tlaxlti, which speak to the spiritual life and rituals of Mesoamerican cultures. We will also see various structures that reveal a masterful urban complex. Return to the hotel; the rest of the day is free.
DAY 2 - After breakfast, we will depart for Papantla to witness the ritual of the Voladores (Flyers) and learn more about the Totonac culture. We will visit the Vanilla Route and Museum (lunch included) and continue to the city of Xalapa del Marquez. We will tour the city and visit a museum, check into the hotel, and spend the night in Xalapa (dinner not included).
DAY 3 - This day we will depart at 8:00 AM to visit Cantoná, one of the most enigmatic, largest, and most populated cities in Mesoamerica, with a population of between 80,000 and 93,000. It boasts over 100 plazas, more than 3,000 residential courtyards, over 500 cobblestone streets, 27 ball courts, and an elaborate acropolis with numerous buildings and ceremonial temples where the ruling elite lived. Built stone upon stone without mortar and completely walled, it was a major center for the obsidian and cacao trade. Spanning 15 square kilometers, it flourished from 650 to 900 AD. A visit to the site museum will undoubtedly be a day to immerse yourself in the past of a magnificent, yet still little-known, culture. Lunch is included, followed by a continuation to the city of Puebla. Check-in at the hotel, dinner not included, and overnight stay.
DAY 4 - Today we begin our tour of the beautiful city of Puebla, walking through the historic center with its colorful streets and houses, admiring its remarkable architecture. We will visit: the Zócalo (main square), the Puebla Cathedral Basilica, the Palafoxiana Library, Arte Garden, the Alley of the Frogs, La Pasita, the El Parián artisan market, the artists' quarter, the Calle del Dulce (Sweet Street), the Hermanos Serdán House Museum, and finally, the Armando Talavera Museum, with its extensive collection of original pieces that illustrate the history and techniques that existed before the arrival of the Spanish. Regional lunch is included, and the rest of the day is free.
DAY 5 - At 8:00 AM. Departure to visit Talchihualtepetl or Cholula, home to a pyramid larger in volume than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, measuring 450 meters on each side at its base. Considered the largest pyramid in the world with a volume of 4.5 million cubic meters, it is the site where the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies was built at the summit as a symbol of evangelization. We will learn about its history, see the visible remains, the tunnels, and the Sanctuary, where you will be impressed by the beautiful panoramic views. We will also visit the Temple of San Francisco Acatepec, where Talavera pottery and vibrant colors are masterfully combined to create a unique art form. We continue with a visit to Tonanzintla, where we will see an expression of Baroque art crafted by indigenous hands. Lunch is included, followed by return to Mexico City. End of services.
