CHIAPAS AND GUATEMALA MAYAN ROUTE. ¡The trip to the past!

DAY 1.- We will be welcomed at the airport or bus terminal in Villahermosa in the morning until 10:00 a.m. We will visit the La Venta Museum and Park to see the colossal heads of the Olmec culture and learn about their relationship with Mayan culture. We will continue to Palenque, visiting the Catazajá Lagoon to observe migratory and endemic birds, varieties of iguanas, crocodiles, spider monkeys, and howler monkeys. If we are lucky, we will see manatees. Lunch is included. Accommodation is available at La Casa del Cielo cabins and an ecotourism center in a natural setting outside the city.

DAY 2.- At 5:00 a.m. Departure for the Lacandon jungle with breakfast en route. Visit Bonampak to see the mural paintings and lintels, the stela depicting the ruler Chan Moan II, and the main temple. Continue to Bethel where the Guatemalan staff will meet us. Continue to Flores with lunch included. Check-in at the hotel.

DAY 3 - After breakfast at 7:45 a.m., we will tour Tikal, where we will see its monumental temples surrounded by dense jungle. We will climb to the highest temple for spectacular views and learn about the most developed history of Mesoamerica. We will visit the on-site museum. Lunch is included within the park. Return to Flores.

DAY 4 - At 7:00 a.m. In the morning, we depart for Bethel. We take a motorboat to Frontera Corozal, where we board another boat to navigate the Usumacinta River to Yaxchilan. We visit this wonderful site, where we will see its temples, the great plaza, the labyrinth of the underworld, a ball court, lintels with hieroglyphic writing, and stelae depicting rulers in ceremonies related to power and their worldview. We return to Frontera Corozal. Lunch is included. We continue to Palenque. We will check into the La Casa del Cielo Ecotourism Center, located in a jungle setting, or at a hotel in Palenque.

DAY 5 - After breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Visit the archaeological site of Palenque, where you will see the Temple of Inscriptions, the Tomb of the Red Queen, the Palace, the Temple of the Night Sun, the Temple of the Foliated Cross, the Ball Court, and other temples. Discover unprecedented architecture and rich sculptural decoration modeled in stucco. Lunch is included, and transfer to the Villahermosa airport or bus terminal is included. End of services.
